Get Your Bangers Out for Charity!

Yes following on from our very successful Banger Rally in 2011, St Austell and District Round Table would like to invite you to enter the 2012 Charity Banger Rally Challenge from Cornwall to Barcelona.

This is an opportunity of a life time and is sure to be you a trip to remember.

We’ll be driving on some of Europe’s finest and most scenic roads.

The only snag is – your car can’t cost much more than a measly £350.

Our two two main charities are Cornwall Hospice Care (Mount Edgcumbe Hospice) and Bosom Buddies (Local breast cancer charity).

But if you like you could raise money for your own Charity or Community Organisation.

The rally will start on Thursday 20th September leaving The Cornwall Hotel at 6pm and finishing in Barcelona on Sunday 23rd September.

You will need to allow a further day to crush, flog or donate your trusty banger to an unwitting local, and fly home.

Or if by the time you’ve reached Spain you’ve fallen so in love with your boneshaker you just can’t let it go – you can always challenge yourself to drive back.

However you wind up we think 4 days charging about the English, French, Andorra & Spanish countryside in a rubbish car will definitely be a trip to remember.

To keep you and your passengers amused there will be several tasks to perform on route to earn bonus points, but if you just want to cruise through the countryside without taking part then that’s just as cool with us too.

Remember rule number 1, this is categorically not a race across Europe, but a leisurely drive by like-minded people, and there will be no advantage in arriving first.

Managing to coax your chosen wreck to the finish point should be rewarding enough but at the final night’s presentation ceremony, over £1000 worth of
cash prize’s will be awarded!

The overall winner will also receive a cash prize and a suitable trophy, while an additional prize of £300 will be awarded for the most imaginative/decorated car and there occupants.

Although every one who takes part is a winner, each participant will also be provided with an appropriately rubbish medal memento on finishing.

You are now probably thinking, will there be support on route! you are joking surely?

We’re sure you wouldn’t appreciate it if we deprived you of the uncertainty each day on whether you chosen chariot will make it to the next checkpoint, let alone start in the morning.

Breaking down miles from anywhere, on a mountain pass in a strange country must be top banana in the entertainment stakes and
worth the entry fee alone.

And we’re sure several teams will testify to this when they arrive back home!

Contest entry is £250, which is based on two people sharing a car; additional passengers will be charged at £60 per person.

Entrance fee includes welcoming and finishing party, t-shirts, route plan, prize money & camping.

Entries are limited, to guarantee a place in this much sought after event a deposit of £100 per car is required.
